What value does Platform 3 have to an employer?
The Level 3 Award Supporting Children and Young People’s Speech, Language and Communication raises the skill level of the children and young people’s workforce, increases the quality of provision and ensures better outcomes for children and young people. As such it links in with a number of key government policy areas including:

  • Supporting the implementation of the Children & Families Act 2014 and SEND Code of Practice
  • Developing the early years and childcare market including childminders
  • Supporting front-line staff with the new 2-year progress check and integrated review and the Early Years Foundation Stage
  • Tackling inequality through the Early Years Pupil Premium and Pupil Premium

Is Platform 3 only for people who work in Early Years?
NO! Absolutely not! The course is relevant to practitioners who work with children and young people up to the age of 19.

How many Credits at Level 3 can I achieve through Platform 3?
Most people achieve 9 Credits, however it is possible to increase this to 10 by selecting an optional Unit with 4 credits attached. See ‘What sorts of things will I study?’

Who can apply?
Platform 3 is for ANYONE who works with children and young people and is looking to gain credits for study which is focused on speech, language and communication.  Whether you are employed in Health, Education, Social Care, are self-employed, or simply seeking to kickstart your career, you are welcome to apply!

I am worried about whether the course might be too difficult for me. How can I get an idea of whether this is the right course for me?
Talk to your employer or line manager. They are there to help and advise. At Course Beetle too, we have experts at hand, who would be pleased to talk to you about both your concerns and your ambitions.

What equipment and technical skills do I need?
It is essential that you have access to a good reliable internet connection, and are happy with processes such as uploading documents, creating folders to organise your files and so on.

The beauty of Platform 3 is that all your work is uploaded to one central, secure location, which you can access in a variety of ways for example via a PC, laptop or tablet device.

We recommend that you work with the most up to date operating system on your PC and laptop, and that your system is set up to allow you to view and play video content etc.

Here at Course Beetle we will be happy to talk to you if you have any concerns about the equipment you have, and to help identify any features which need updating. Although we are unable to provide long distance IT support, we will always do our best to help you if you should encounter any difficulties. You are never alone with Course Beetle!

What sorts of things will I study?
With Platform 3, everyone completes 2 mandatory units

Support speech, language and communication development
(3 credits)

Support children and young people’s speech, language and communication skills
(3 Credits)

Then it’s time to follow your own interests and select one more unit of your own choice!  The Unit options are:

Support the speech, language and communication development of children who are learning more than one language (3 Credits)
Support positive practice with children and young people with speech, language and communication needs (4 Credits)
Understand the speech, language and communication needs of children and young people with social and emotional and mental health needs (3 Credits)
Work with parents, families and carers to support their children’s speech, language and communication development (3 Credits)

What happens if I don’t succeed? Can I have my money back?
All efforts are put into making sure you DO succeed, and your tutor will be there to encourage and support you. The onus however is on you to complete all the assignments and achieve the necessary assessment criteria. An excellent feature of Platform 3 is that your tutor and you will be in regular contact, and our tutors are trained to keep an eye out for any learners who are falling behind in any way.

Learners who get the most out of this opportunity:

  • Make a commitment to their qualification
  • Manage their time well in order to complete work in line with deadlines.
  • Are motivated to complete tasks online, independently.
  • Have basic computer skills, to navigate through the online learning platform and upload documents for assessment.
