Phonological Awareness Assessment and Intervention

What is this course?

Phonological Awareness is a crucial set of skills that underpin speech, vocabulary and literacy development. It is a frequent component of both speech and language therapy and classroom interventions for children with speech, language and literacy difficulties. This course will tackle the practicalities of assessment and intervention, developing our clinical decision making in this area. We will consider how speech and language therapists can work collaboratively with parents and schools to improve phonological awareness and school readiness. We will focus on the theory and evidence that underpins phonological awareness assessment of and intervention for children with speech sound disorder and how it impacts on vocabulary and literacy development. We will consider how phonological awareness develops in different language environments and how that informs assessment and intervention.
