An introduction to working with children and young people who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs (SEMH) and Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)

What is this course?

Please note this event is for 11th October in Birmingham and replaces the June 14th event in Manchester. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this change.

A day for Speech and Language Therapists and other professionals working with children and young people who have both SEMH and SLCN. The aim of the course is to ensure practitioners have a clear understanding of issues and implications in order to deliver effective, evidence-based practice.

Developing a clear understanding of the implications of SEMH plus SLCN is relevant to every speech and language therapist working with children and young people. Having an understanding of how to help children and young people develop skills to manage their emotions, and improve social problem solving is of universal relevance. Whether you are new to SEMH or not, it is always important to consider the basics of how to approach children and young people with SEMH and SLCN.

We are frequently asked about how this course and the Attachment Masterclass (also presented by Melanie Cross) fit together. The courses are entirely different, but do complement each other extremely well. They can be considered parallel training courses, meaning that it is not important to attend the courses in any set order.

In acknowledgement of the benefit of attending both courses, we offer a discount to those booking onto this course if the Attachment course has already been attended, or if you are a new applicant considering attending both, a discount can be offered.
