About this course
This FREE session, via Zoom, offers an unmissable opportunity to find out about how Paediatric Optimised Conversation Approach (POCA) training will provide you with the knowledge and skills to have practical, positive and productive conversations during sessions. Paediatric Optimised Conversation Approach (POCA) is a conversational clinical approach which complements existing therapeutic strategies and programmes. Therefore, the approach can easily be implemented by therapists in their clinical sessions, resulting in tangible, rewarding results for their clients.
The webinar will introduce you to the concepts underpinning a successful coaching conversation with the key adult in the child’s life. Following the webinar, you will be provided the opportunity to sign up for the full course, which includes a self-study module followed by a half-day live training where you will apply the concepts introduced in the webinar practically (using video examples, small group discussions and role play).

Elena Loraine
Founder of TheSpeechie, BMedSci, MRes, NIHR Fellow (2018), Churchill Fellow (2017)
Elena Loraine is a Speech and Language Therapist and clinical academic. She has trained speech and language therapy teams nationally within the NHS and SLT students in POCA, a practical and evidence-based coaching approach. Elena researched a federally funded early intervention model in her Churchill Travelling Fellowship to the USA in 2017 where she was first introduced to the use of ‘coaching’. Elena then further designed and developed a coaching training programme in her National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) funded research project. She brings her experience as a speech and language therapist, working both in the NHS and private sector, along with insights from her academic research into her training courses. Elena Loraine has presented nationally and internationally, including at the Division of Early Childhood International Conference (USA) and at the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) events.

Please skip over this information if you are at the start of your POCA journey – but bear in mind that there is an option at the very end of the process to book individual 1: 1 support from Elena.
If you know are likely to be interested in this add-on option following your training, but will need to apply to your organisation for funding, you can reserve a place. This will provide you with all the details you need to forward on to your line manager or payment contact.
If you are self-funding or have permission to go ahead and book – complete a booking form. We will liaise with both Elena and you to identify mutually suitable times for your 1:1 coaching sessions. It is recommended that there is a gap of at least one week between sessions 1 and 2. This will be taken into account when arranging your sessions.
