About this course
This course has four modules which must be accessed in order. Modules 1 and 2 are core with the later modules adding more specific information regarding older children and young people, and co-existing conditions.
You can complete Module 1 only or Modules 1 and 2. And, if you do not need to learn about secondary school-aged students in relation to Selective Mutism, you do not need to complete Module 3.
Course Materials
There are 5 categories of resources for this training:

- Downloadable online resource library: this is Part 5 of the Selective Mutism Resource Manual.
- Presentation videos for each module: watch Maggie Johnson present the Selective Mutism modules. These were recorded during virtual live sessions and have been partly edited. We have preserved the audio of delegate questions and Maggie’s responses, as they contribute additional information of value.
- Course handouts for each module: PowerPoint presentations you can use to make notes as the module content is being delivered. During the presentations, Maggie draws attention to various handouts and explains how you may find them useful.
- Reference videos: demonstrating techniques being used with children and young people.

Maggie Johnson
Speech and Language Therapy Specialist and FRCSLT
Maggie Johnson is widely recognised as a UK expert in Selective Mutism and has contributed to the Primary National Strategy for children with special educational needs (DfES 2005) and Communicating Phonics (The Communication Trust 2012).
