About this course

This course tackles the practicalities of assessment and intervention, developing our clinical decision-making in this area. We consider how Speech and Language Therapists can work collaboratively with parents and schools to improve phonological awareness. Focusing on underpinning theory, evidence and interventions for children with Speech Sound Disorder we also examine how it impacts vocabulary and literacy development. Discover how phonological awareness develops in different language environments and how that informs assessment and intervention.

Following the course, you will be more confident in your clinical decision-making with children who would benefit from appropriate interventions. You will have acquired recommendations about assessment and intervention that can be immediately applied in your workplace as well as practical ideas for collaboration with parents and other professionals. We will give you takeaway (and shareable) assessment and intervention resources.

Course testimonials

“Lots of useable information. Research based. Helen is very knowledgeable.”

“It was great to have a clear background to phonological awareness skills and their place related to other communication skills, e.g., expressive phonology, language, and literacy. How lovely to be coming away with the NAPA and NIPA resources to use immediately and to share with colleagues in the team. Intervention was considered in terms of universal, targeted and specialist support. It was really helpful to have such a comprehensive set of notes.”

“This was one of the best courses I have ever attended. I love that I came away with so much practical information about assessment and intervention of phonological awareness. Thank you to Helen for sharing her wealth of knowledge in such an accessible and practical way, and to Course Beetle for organising it so well.”
