The Makaton Charity advises as follows regarding overseas applications to join UK Makaton courses:
In theory, you can access the online Makaton training from anywhere in the world, but please bear in mind that British Makaton uses signs drawn from British Sign Language. When Makaton is used in other countries it needs to be adapted to suit the local culture and dominant spoken and signed languages. Unless spoken English and British Makaton are the dominant language and alternative/augmentative communication (AAC) methods are used where you are (eg. in an English-speaking International school community), you might find it counter-productive and confusing for people. At the moment we only have printed versions of the workshop participant’s manuals available so you would need to pay additional postage for this and allow extra time for it to reach you.

Course testimonials
“I found this course to be very informative and well presented with lots of opportunities to practice skills both as small groups and as a whole group. It was a positive environment that encouraged questions and confident/comfortable learning! I felt this was a very positive learning experience that demonstrates the importance of alternative communication forms and how to support these across different environments.”
“It was very insightful to see how we can adapt signs and learn how to become more fluent. This was a very interesting course with a great tutor, I really enjoyed this! Thank you.”
“I enjoyed that there was more of a focus on practising with a partner. Signing practice, sentence practice and symbol practice was really useful.”
